1880s Contrast Linen Bathing Suit

Bathing costumes were a little bit different in the 1880s than they are today. This is my recreation of a historical swimsuit, and it’s what I actually wear to the beach in my daily life! I chose to make the bathing suit out of sand and black linen because linen keeps the body extremely cool in hot weather and also dries quickly, exactly what’s needed for a historical swimsuit. The matching cap and removable skirt are made from black wool flannel and sand linen.

This bathing costume is completely hand stitched by me.
